Live-in care

Round-the-clock support without leaving home. Live-in care suits people whose needs have outgrown visiting calls but who would rather not move.

Who it is for

Is this you?

A carer living in the home, as an alternative to moving into residential care.

Someone considering a residential move

The needs have outgrown visiting calls, but leaving home is not what anyone wants.

People who need overnight reassurance

Nights are the part that worries the family most, and a daytime rota does not cover it.

Couples who want to stay together

One of you needs more support than the other, and a care home would separate you.

What is included

What you get

  • A carer living in the home
  • Overnight and waking-night cover
  • Household routines maintained
  • Planned handovers and relief cover
A carer supporting an older man using crutches in his kitchen

When live-in care is the right next step

Live-in care suits people whose needs have outgrown visiting calls but who would rather not move. A carer lives in the home, keeps the household running, and is there overnight. It is not 24-hour one-to-one care without a break — waking-night cover, rest periods and relief carers are planned in, because a tired carer is not safe care.

  • One carer living in, with relief cover rostered
  • Overnight presence; waking nights where the plan needs them
  • Meals, medication and daily routines kept as they are
  • Couples can stay together when only one person needs the support

What the household needs to provide

The carer needs a private room and access to a bathroom. We agree food, expenses and time off before anyone moves in. The assessment is longer than a visiting package because the carer will be living in the house, not passing through it.

  • A dedicated room for the carer
  • A written rota for rest periods and relief weeks
  • Introduction visits before the live-in placement starts
  • A plan for what happens if the carer is unwell

We visit at home to understand the person, routine and risks.

  3. Step 03

    Care plan

A written plan you agree to, with named carers and a schedule.

  4. Step 04

    Care starts

Support begins, and the plan is reviewed as needs change.
