Learning disability
The measure of a good package is what someone can do at the end of it. Support is planned with the person, in a format they can actually use.

Is this you?
Support that builds independence rather than replacing it.
Adults with a learning disability
Support should build on what you can already do rather than take it over.
People moving toward independent living
There is a goal in mind, and the support needs to be pointed at reaching it.
Families planning a transition
A change is coming — leaving education, a parent ageing — and the plan needs to be ready.
What you get
- Support with daily living skills
- Help accessing work and activities
- Accessible plans and communication
- Consistent, trained carers

The measure is what someone can do at the end of it
Support is planned with the person, in a format they can actually use. The point is not to complete tasks for them faster; it is to keep and grow the skills they have. Plans are written so the person can see them, not only so a file can hold them.
- Daily living skills practised, not taken over
- Help accessing work, college and community activities
- Accessible plans and communication
- A consistent team who know the person, not a rotating rota
When the next stage is coming
Leaving education, a parent ageing, a move toward more independent living — the support has to point at the goal. We will say if the current package is maintaining a situation rather than helping the person move through it.
- Planning with the person and the family, not around them
- Coordination with social workers and existing teams
- Honest capacity: we take packages we can staff, not every referral
- Reviews that ask whether independence has actually increased
